The Greater Accra Hockey Association has signed an “enhanced” sponsorship deal with Sapholda Ventures Limited in the lead up to the start of the 2024 Hockey League.
The first round of the new season is scheduled to commence on Saturday, April 27 and end on June 8 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
Games have been scheduled to be played on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with games on Saturdays planned to run from 6:30 GMT to 19:30 GMT.
The event was held earlier today to mark the signing of the deal that increases Sapholda’s financial commitment to the Greater Accra Hockey League improve from 50,000 Ghana Cedis to 100,000 Ghana Cedis.
Greater Accra Hockey Association Vice Chairman Derrick Tamakloe and Head of Sales and Marketing for Sapholda Ventures, Ebo Acquaye headlined the program.
Speaking at the event, Derrick Tamakloe praised Sapholda for its consistent support that has lasted for a decade stating,
“We have a relationship with them for over a decade close to 15 years. They started with sponsoring a team in the masters division and they deepened their relationship 10 years ago by sponsoring the league and other events. Sapholda is here to enhance the contract they signed with us last year.

“This time the focus is more on development” and added that “we will be using this package for development of the players.”
On his part, Ebo Acquaye said, “Over the decade, we have been sponsoring hockey and it has been excellent for us throughout these years in terms of our commitment year on year. It is our aim to bring all clubs in Greater Accra together let them compete to create awareness, interest for the hockey league.
The Ghana Army Team are defending champions in the Men’s Division while Ghana Revenue Authority are defending champions in the Women’s Division.

The upcoming league comes on the back of Ghana winning gold at the 2023 Africa Games in Women’s Hockey and the men’s team winning silver at the competition.
