The Mauritanian Football Federation has extended the contract of head coach Amir Abdou until 2026, after leading Mauritania to a remarkable participation in the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023.

The Mauritanian national team, for the first time in its history, qualified to the knockout round of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, before being eliminated in the last eight by Cape Verde after losing 1-0.

On Thursday, 08 February, the Mauritanian Football Federation announced that it had extended the contract of coach Amir Abdou, through an official statement. 

"The Mauritanian Football Federation announces that it has reached a final agreement with the national coach, Amir Abdou, to extend his contract at the head of the national team until 2026.”

The Comorian coach, who has been in charge of the Mauritanian national team since March 2022, led the "Al Mourabitoun" to record their first victory in the finals of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, after 3 complete participations in which the "Al Mourabitoun" did not witness any victory, as the only victory of the Mauritanian team in the competition was against Algeria, in the third round in Group D.
