Saturday action features Lithuania v Bulgaria and Luxembourg v Liechtenstein in the afternoon, followed by a trio of early-evening kick-offs, the pick of which pits Norway against Scotland in a Group A match at the Ullevaal Stadion.
Norway coach Stale Solbakken has revealed that the endorsement of star players Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard was important in him remaining in his post: “If they had said, ‘Damn it, you can forget it’, I don't think I would have been sitting here. I'm not that naive. They are important for Norwegian and international football, they are strong voices in world football and we must take advantage of that.”
The 20:45 matches are headlined by Belgium and Portugal playing at home to Austria and Bosnia-Herzegovina respectively. The Red Devils will be chasing a second win in Group F, as they move toward a new era under coach Domenico Tedesco.
“There is a lot of work to do, both in the short and long term, but we must keep our focus on winning matches and qualifying for the Euros,” said Tedesco. “We have made a promising start, and there are promising signs.”
The Navigators welcome Bosnia-Herzegovina and are chasing a third successive win at the top of Group J. Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be a cornerstone of the Portugal team and received special praise from coach Roberto Martinez.
“It's a new cycle. It's important for a player to show commitment and that we can use his experience, and Cristiano shows that,” said Martinez. “He will have an important role to play and can clearly perform to a high level, as ever.”
Saturday night also features the Czech Republic away to minnows Faroe Islands, Iceland hosting Slovakia, Georgia visiting Cyprus, and Albania tackling Moldova.
