Norrie will meet highly rated 18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who beat France's Gael Monfils 7-5 6-1.

Spain's Rafael Nadal saw off big-serving American Reilly Opelka 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-5) for his 18th straight win.

"It's a great victory for me against one of the toughest opponents that I can play," the 21-time Grand Slam winner said.

Nadal will play Australia's Nick Kyrgios, who advanced after Jannik Sinner withdrew through illness, in the last eight.

Norrie lost his first four matches of the season but won the Delray Beach title and reached the Mexican Open final in February.

He is likely to face a tough task against Alcaraz, who broke through at last year's US Open when he stunned third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Norrie, who lost to Alcaraz in the first round in New York, said: "He absolutely chopped me up the last time we played.

"It's not going to be easy but it is great for tennis to have a great up-and-coming guy like that. He has got a very complete game already."

Unseeded Serb Miomir Kecmanovic stunned world number six Matteo Berrettini 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 to set up a quarter-final with American Taylor Fritz, while Russian Andrey Rublev beat Hubert Hurkacz of Poland 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

In the women's draw, Poland's Iga Swiatek thrashed American Madison Keys 6-1 6-0 to reach the semi-finals.

She will face former world number one Simona Halep of Romania, who saw off Croatia's Petra Martic 6-1 6-1.
