There was near mayhem at the Ablekuma North Constituency temporary office of the Electoral Commission (EC) when some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed the office to demand explanation to an alleged distribution of new voter's Identity Cards to unknown people.
However, the Deputy Returning Officer, Mr Nkansah Adjei Owusu explained to the GNA that there was nothing wrong with that and that the cards were issued to replace that of voters whose cards were got lost during the photo exhibition exercise.
The cards were to be distributed to them last month at the various EC offices but it was not done.
Subsequently, the EC issued receipts to the affected voters to enable them collect the cards on the voting day. This, he explained was misconstrued by the NDC supporters.
The problem was however resolved peacefully when the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Kwamena Bartels and the NDC aspiring Parliamentarian, Mr Ashford Smith were briefed by officials who later explained to their supporters.
Earlier, at 1420 hours, Mr Bartels and his wife cast their votes at the Bethel Baptist Church at Sakaman.
