Emefa Nukpe was crowned winner of the third Army Officers Mess Tennis Club (AMTEC) Ladies Open after defeating strong contender, Deladem Tanson, 8-5 at the 37 Army Officers Tennis Courts last Saturday.
Emefa, 29, proved too strong for her opponents as she topped her group after beating Harriet Krakani and Francisca Azuyine at the round-robin stage to qualify for the semi-finals. She went ahead to defeat Mary Lancaster 6-1, before dispatching Deladem 8-5 in the final.
The one-week tournament was meant to encourage ladies to engage in competitive sports and also for networking.
In the end, Emefa — staff of Naci Construction Limited in Accra — displayed impressive skills to the admiration of the fans.
For her prize, Emefa took home a trophy, GH¢1,500, a certificate, Babolat racket, six yards of Woodin fabric and six bags of 5kg Royal Feast rice.
The runner-up, Deladem, received a trophy, cash prize of GH¢800, a certificate, Babolat racket, four yards of Woodin fabric, four bags of 5kg Royal Feast rice and other products as her reward.
Linda Agyei, who placed third after walloping Mary Lancaster 8-1, also went home with a trophy, GH¢600 cash, a certificate and products from the sponsors.
The rest of the participants were each given certificates, two yards of woodin fabric each, a bag of Royal Feast rice each and other products.
