The visit was to officially invite him for the Fifth Goldfields championship, to Tee off from 28th November to 2nd December, 2018.

The championship slated for the Damang Golf Course, which is also to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Goldfields was expected to attract over seventy professional golfers from all over Africa.

Mr Anthony Mintah, PGA President, said the association was bent on promoting golf in order to make it a household sport, which could develop the next generation of sports men and women, hence it was necessary they brought the sports ministry onboard to push the agenda.

“We want to project golf to the various schools, which could help us grow the game and get the next Tiger Woods from Ghana.

“Golfers earn a living from the game and it behooves on the PGA to get more international tournaments for our professional golfers and we are ready to make sure it happens, so they can play more international tournaments for themselves and raise the flag of Ghana high as well.

“It is very important to coordinate with the sector ministry in our pursuit of that and we know the sports minister being an ardent sports man with intentions of giving a new face to Ghana sports would help the course” he added.

Mr. Asiamah, promised Government’s support in making sure that golf, would become a popular sport.

“We are ready to help develop golf by making sure that it is introduced to our schools and it is a great idea from the PGA, and then ministry would give its support in diverse ways”.

Mr. Alfred Baku, Goldfields Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa said Goldfields has over the years tried in many ways to give their support to national cause, with their corporate social responsibility and they are not reneging on that.

“Goldfields has given support to the senior national football male team and we are bent on doing same for golf, as they seek to project it to another level.

“As part of our 25th anniversary, we have started the construction of the Tarkwa-Damang road to have the environs we operate in have a good road access.

“We have also paid about $3m to the Lands Commission as our dividends and we are poised to do more in making sure that Ghana benefit from our operations and activities”.

The Goldfields and PGA team, which visited the sports minister included Madam Benedicta Nkrumah, Marketing Consultant, Mr Francis Eduku, Vice President, Human Resource, Mr. David Johnson, Vice President in charge of Corporate Affairs and Stake Holder Relations, Nana Prempeh, Director of Communications, PGA.
