The election of a presiding member for Jaman South District Assembly will be held at Drobo on April 29.
This will be the third time the Assembly will attempt to elect a Presiding Member.
Mr. Mike Amponsah, government appointee and Ms. Ruth Antwiwaa,an English tutor at Drobo Senior High School and an elected member for Drobo East electoral area, are the contestants.
In the two previous exercises none of them could achieve the two-third majority of votes, even though Mr. Amponsah took a commanding lead on both occasions.
In the first election, out of 57 members of the Assembly, Mr. Amponsah polled 32 votes while Ms. Antwiwaa obtained 24 votes.
However, in the second edition Mr. Amponsah slumped to 30 votes whilst Ms. Antwiwaa increased hers by two votes.
Both Members of the Assembly and the electorate have attributed the Assembly’s inability to elect a presiding member to partisan politicization of the process.
It is being alleged the Assembly is divided on political grounds, a departure from the decentralization process and the District Assembly concept.
