Six political parties have endorsed incumbent Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan as their presidential flag bearer, ahead of Saturday's election.
The presidential candidates of the parties made the endorsement at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
The parties are Advanced Democratic Congress (ADC), Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP), National Majority Democratic Party (NMDP),
Peoples Mandate Party (PMP), Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) and the United National Party for Development (UNPD).
They said their adoption of President Jonathan was voluntary based on personal conviction that he was the most competent candidate who was
capable of transforming Nigeria.
Peter Nwangwu of the ADC urged all other presidential candidates to do the honorable thing by giving Jonathan the chance to carry on for the
next four years.
Also speaking, Godswill Nnaji, BNPP presidential candidate said he was collapsing his campaign into the ruling party's own.
"I want to support his vision of making Nigeria one of the 20 best economies by the year 2020," he added.
Speaking in the same vein, Vice Presidential candidate of the UNPD, Galadima Samari pledged to work for stronger unity between the North and South.
"We are calling on all Northerners to support Goodluck. When we do so, we will be extending our hands of friendship to other sections of the
Nigerian family," Samari said.
Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Inter-Party Relations Committee, Ebenezer Babatope, who received the six presidential
candidates, said the party would not under-estimate any political party.
"PDP does not underrate any political party. PDP will be destroying itself if it fails to recognize any registered political party, no
matter how small," he added.
"Any registered political party with only one supporter has got many things to offer for the promotion of good governance. We know their
worth," he said.
"We in the PDP are very proud of these gentlemen who have come to renounce their presidential ambition to say they embrace Jonathan," Babatope said.
He said the PDP was working hard to reach out to all political parties as part of efforts to guarantee democratic stability.
