Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), have been urged to endeavour to elect a Presiding Member as soon as possible.
Mr Daniel Nii Okai, a member of the Assembly, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Thursday, noted that the delay to elect a Presiding Member was retarding the work of the Assembly.
Mr Okai noted that the District Assembly concept is non partisan and asked members of the Assembly to relegate their political affiliation to the background and elect a Presiding Member, who would promote the agenda of the Assembly.
He asked members of the Assembly to place the welfare of their constituents before their personal, financial and other gains for the benefit of the people.
Mr Okai, who is the Chairman of the Odododiodioo constituency of the National Democratic Congress, reminded the Assembly Members of the programme by the AMA to make Accra a Millennium City.
He, therefore, appealed to them to assist in ensuring the success of the Millennium City project to make the capital a modern Metropolis.
He also appealed to the Assembly Members to elect a Presiding Member who has the progress and development of Accra at heart.
The AMA at three previous sittings failed to elect a Presiding Member because none of the two contestants obtained the two thirds majority votes required.
