The United States envoy to India Timothy J. Roemer Thursday met Indian-controlled Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday in Srinagar, capital of the region, diplomatic sources said.
"The U.S. ambassador arrived in Srinagar this morning and met the Chief Minister. The two have discussed matter relating to the country's northern state in a bid to give out a message to separatist groups that America would not support any group indulging in violence," the sources said pleading anonymity.
Indian-controlled Kashmir has been troubled by confrontation between local separatist groups and Indian government over decades. Protests last summer claimed the lives of more than 100 civilians.
