Assemblyman-elect for Horticulture Electoral Area at Community Four in Tema Mr Winston John Quasie, has observed that dialogue was the key towards enhancing development.
In this regard he urged members of his electoral area to channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters, and stop rumour – mongering, which he said, only heightened tension.
Mr Quasie said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tema, after a Unit Committee meeting to outline members’ vision for the Electoral Area.
In the area of Education, Mr Quasie said plans were underway to construct a library for the area and to employ the services of volunteers, who would take students through learning activities that are similar to the preps system.
The Assemblyman-elect expressed regret about the absence of a pre–school in the area and urged Mr Ashong Narh, the Member of Parliament, to speed up work on the proposed kindergarten/nursery block for the Community Four Number Two School.
Touching on Infrastructure and Sanitation, Mr Quasie who is a Petroleum Chemist/Environmentalist at the Tema Oil Refinery, said the Unit Committee would collaborate with the Task Force of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to re-locate containers sitting on sewer lines, fire hydrants and in emergency exit ways.
“The Unit Committee is very concerned about beautifying the environment, and already we have started by uprooting trees whose roots destroy the concrete pavements, and are replacing them with flowers and trees which are ecologically friendly,” he added.
On security, the Assemblyman-elect said everything would be done to ensure that the Assembly received its fair share of the street light levies, being collected by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to enable them light up the area to enhance safety as well as beautify the area at night.
Mr Quasie said his outfit would establish communications with the Tema Development Corporation, for an update on the Kaiser Flats buildings as the structures had deteriorated and were not safe for occupation.
He appealed to the contractor working on the stretch of road in front of the Majorie Y Hotel to speed up work on the project, since the closure of sections of the road had created lots of vehicular traffic and discomfort to many road users.
Mr Quasie said sponsorships were being solicited from key institutions in and around the electoral area, as part of their corporate social responsibility, to help implement the objectives.
