Mr Togigah Ake Anthony, newly elected assemblyman for the Buru Nakolo electoral area in the Kasenna Nankana West District on Wednesday said education was top on his agenda.
He indicated that he would ensure the improvement in school enrolment and educational facilities to attract teachers to come to the area.
Mr Togigah said he would further ensure the promulgation of bylaws in the area to ban the ever increasing night dances in the area which according to him, were introducing some bad foreign influences to children and increasing the
incidence of moral decadence among the youth.
He called on government not to focus on physical structures alone but to develop the human mind adequately, saying if children were well developed, they would be able to focus well on their future career.
He said most schools in the area lacked teachers and residential accommodation facilities for teachers and said the situation was the reason for the reluctance of teachers to accept postings to the area.
He added that teaching Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in schools was still a mirage as most schools in the rural areas were not connected to the national electricity grid. In view of this, extra classes planned for
children in the area had always proved futile, adding that others did not have computers to learn ICT.
He said even though he had not had the opportunity to organize a forum to discuss his plans with community members, one important step he was taking was to have a unified body in the area to regularly share information and keep
communities abreast with issues from the district assembly.
He called on assembly members to ensure that they brought development to their electoral areas, saying education should be the focus of all politicians.
