The Slovenian Foreign Ministry on Friday warned citizens against unnecessary travel to Tunisia as the North African country is bogged down in social
turmoil.
Political unrest and increasing anti-government protests in many parts of Tunisia have turned violent, the ministry said in a press release on Friday.
Slovenian travelers should avoid going to the region where protests are being held, and monitor regularly information via media and travel agencies, the release said.
In addition, Slovenian citizens are also advised to take great caution while traveling to the Sahara, in particular southern parts along the border with Algeria.
Tunisia has been facing growing anti-government demonstrations since December when the government failed to curb high unemployment. Such failure has apparently fomented the opposition' s call for strong action against official corruption and
social poverty.
Dozens of people were reportedly killed in clashes between the demonstrators and security forces.
