The Central Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come out with the truth about the TOR debts.
They should also acknowledge and tell the nation of the other debts they bequeathed to the country, and stop the use of derogative remarks against President Mills, for telling Ghanaians the debts he came to meet.
Mr Samuel Adu Yeboah, Regional Chairman of the NDC, who threw the challenge, in the wake of the hullabaloo from NPP fanatics about the debts, after the President’s encounter with journalists last week.
He said he was surprised that, despite the noises being made by the NPP fanatics about the quantum of the debts, none of them was able to tell Ghanaians how much the debt was at the time they prepared the handing over notes.
Mr Adu Yeboah said he was surprised that, the state of the economy, including cash in the coffers, as well as the debts, were not captured in the handing-over notes to the incoming government.
“If that had been done, there wouldn’t have been any quarrel over the TOR debt”.
Mr Adu Yeboah, a lawyer by profession, said the fact that the NPP did not know the amount of debts they left behind, was a clear testimony of “how they mismanaged the economy, dissipating funds without keeping records on them”.
He said since they had no records on the debts they left behind, they had no moral justification to challenge anybody, who tells them about the debt they left behind.
