A one-day workshop for 48 aspiring women assembly women in the Brong Ahafo Region has ended in Techiman.
The workshop organised by the Electoral Commission and supported by the European Union (EU) was attended by the aspirants drawn from Techiman North and South, Kintampo North and South, Nkoranza North and South, Atebubu, Sene, Pru, Wenchi and Tain districts.
The participants were taken through the voting process, voting procedure, counting of votes and declaration of results, collation and challenging election results, duties of polling agents and assistants, as well as the presiding officer.
Addressing the participants, Mr. George Gyabaah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Electoral Commission, cautioned that the election was not partisan-based and that any candidate found to be receiving support from a political party would be disqualified.
Mr. Gyabaah advised the aspirants to abide by the rules of the election and charged them to advise their supporters to desist from untoward behaviour at the polling stations.
He said any person who presents him or herself as a polling agent but lacks proper accreditation would not be admitted at the polling stations and urged the participants to go through proper procedure to appoint their polling agents.
Mr. Samuel Kwaah, Techiman Municipal Electoral Officer, admonished electoral officials to ensure that candidates?€? posters were not placed near polling stations.
The participants later expressed concern about how some polling agents directed voters to vote for a particular choice and appealed to the EC to ensure the practice was avoided in the forthcoming district assembly election.
