The Member of Parliament(MP) for Nkawkaw, Mr Seth Adjei-Baah has spent 7,200 Ghana Cedis from his share of the Common Fund to rehabilitate the Nkawkaw Central Police Cells and the charge office which were in a deplorable condition.
The rehabilitation work included the construction of two water closets place of convenience, two bath houses with showers, extension of pipe borne water to the cells, provision of a 500 liter capacity over head water tank , laying of floor tiles and painting to improve sanitation at the cells.
Addressing the inmates at the cells after handing over the facility to the Nkawkaw District Directorate of the Police Service , Mr Adjei-Baah, popularly known as Shaba said a lot of world leaders including former South African President, Mr Nelson Mandela and the former President of Ghana, Flt. Lt, Jerry John Rawlings spent time in prison before becoming presidents.
He therefore urged the inmates of the cells to use the birth of Christ to reflect on what sent them to the Police cells and turn a new leave to become responsible citizens and contribute to the development of society.
The MP for Salaga in the Northern Region,
Alhaji Ibrahim who accompanied Mr Adjei-Baah, said people who were sent to police cells and prisons were not sent there to be punished but to reform and come back to become responsible citizens.
The Station Officer of the Police Station, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Okudzeto commended the MP for the rehabilitation works to improve the health needs of the inmates of the cells.
Mr Adjei-Baah later presented some food and soft drinks to the inmates to celebrate the Christmas.
