Positive Mindset International (PMI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has advocated the adoption of a uniform National Development Policy, instead of manifestoes of political parties, which were sometimes ignored or not fully implemented.
Evangelist Albert Forson, Executive Director of the NGO, said:
"Adoption of a unified policy would curb instances whereby good government policies and projects are ignored by successive governments because they are at variance with their party's manifesto".
He made the call at the launch of the NGO, which seek to change the negative mindset of Ghanaians in all aspects for sustainable development, in Accra on Tuesday.
These include humanitarian services, religious and moral campaigns, leadership training, initiatives towards peaceful coexistence and educational workshops.
Evangelist Forson suggested the extension of tenure of ruling governments from four to six years, without an option for a second term to
ensure effective governance, and save Ghana, the trauma of organising elections every four years and eliminate the fear of losing re-election.
He said: "If the government is aware that it has six years to complete its agenda, it would be firm in taking decisions and not succumb to pressure from party activists to satisfy their interest to the detriment of the nation".
Evangelist Forson called for the adoption of positive mindset by Ghanaians to fully utilise and benefit from the country's natural resources
and expressed concern about political activists who had divided the country.
He asked Ghanaians to eschew sycophancy and false allegiance to political parties, which undermined sustainable development, and advised the youth to respect the elderly.
"The justification of insults in politics is socially and morally unacceptable and must be condemned by all and sundry," Evangelist Forson
said.
He called for the abolition cultural practices such as widowhood rights, female genital mutilation and camping and maltreatment of suspected witches.
Evangelist Forson advised the youth to channel their energies into more productive ventures and not allow themselves to be used by politicians for their selfish interests.
Mr Frank Ebo Mensah, Project Coordinator of PMI, said the NGO was determined to promote behavioral change, positive orientation, nationalism, volunteerism, prevent spread of HIV and AIDS, address climate change and
sanitation, through education.
He called on corporate organisation to support activities of the NGO.
Mr Constance Gladza, Deputy Director, Ministry of Culture and Chieftaincy, commended the NGO for the initiative that would assist
Ghanaians to have positive attitudes about themselves and the nation.
He asked the NGO to intensify education on cleanliness as the nation was gradually losing the battle on good sanitary practices.
