A Takoradi Circuit court on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old driver's mate, Francis Essuman, to three years imprisonment in hard labour, for a stealing mobile phone.
The convict was sentenced upon his own plea of guilty to stealing.
Prosecuting, Sergeant Seth Ahelegbe told the court, presided over by Mr Charles Bamford Nimako that, on November 19, this year, the complainant,
Samy Afari, who resides at Assakae, was charging his mobile in his room and went to bed.
The prosecutor said the complainant woke up the next day only to detect that his mobile phone had been stolen and started his own investigation in search of the thief.
Sgt Ahelegbe said the complainant had information that Essuman was the one who stole the phone and he confronted the convict.
The convict confessed stealing the phone and a report was made to the Kwesimintsim police station for his arrest.
Sgt Ahelegbe said the convict admitted in his caution statement that he stole the phone and sold it to one Wala at Kwesimintsim. However, the police could not trace Wala and the convict was arraigned before the court and charged with the offence.
