The Birim Central Municipal Assembly had begun an exercise to clear all refuse heaps in the municipality.
Ms Ophelia Koomson, the Municipal Chief Executive, told the GNA that the first phase of the exercise had been completed in Akyem Oda, Akyem Asene, Akyem Manso, Akyem Asuoso and Atiankama Nkwanta.

Ms Koomson appealed to people living in mining communities to desist from illegal mining operations (galamsey) so as not to degrade the environment.
