Supporters of Mr Alan Kyerematen in the Western Region have condemned the formation of a new political party, United Front Party (UFP), in the Ashanti Region by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
One of the spokespersons for Mr Kyerematen in the Western Region, Mr. Charles Larbi Boateng, alleged at a press conference in Takoradi that the UFP was targeting those that supported Mr Kyerematen's bid to be elected the presidential candidate of the NPP.
He said supporters of Mr Kyerematen in the Western Region had nothing to do with the new party and are therefore distancing themselves from activities of UFP in the region.
"We of the Alan camp in the Western Region want to state categorically that we have nothing whatsoever to do with this party and just as Alan has distanced himself from the this party, we also do same", Mr. Boateng said.
He said information gathered from the Ashanti Region indicated that the UFP intended to storm the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis with followers of Mr Kyerematen as their target.
Mr Boateng said this would not succeed in the region. "We of the Alan camp in the region have decided that we will throw our weight behind Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and do whatever we can within our power to help recapture power from the NDC".
He accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the formation of the new party just to dismantle the united front of the NPP.
Mr Boateng appealed to those that are behind the formation of the new party to rescind their decision and come back to the NPP so that their grievances would be laid bare for prompt action to be taken to address them.
