The State of Palestine on Thursday expressed concern about Israel's nuclear capabilities and asked the Jewish state to accede to treaty on Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
This was contained in a statement from the Embassy of the State of Palestine and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday which asked Israel to place its nuclear facilities under the comprehensive International AEA safeguards.
The statement also expressed concern about the threat posed by the proliferation of nuclear weapons to the security and stability of the Middle East and asked the Director General of the IAEA to work with the concerned states towards achieving that goal.
The statement called upon Israel to accede to the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT) and place all its nuclear facilities under its comprehensive safeguards.
Israel should bear in mind the resolution on the Middle East adopted by 1995 Review and Extension Conference of the parties to the treaty on the NPT in which the conference noted with concern the continued existence of unsafeguarded nuclear facilities in the Middle East, the statement said.
