The National Coordinator of the Women in Law and Development in Africa(WILDAF), Ms Bernice Sam, has appealed to women to be courageous and get involved in politics, and also contest the district assembly and parliamentary elections.
Ms Sam made the appeal at a five-day governance workshop on 'awareness creation in politics' for over 20 participants made up of traditional rulers, clergy, politicians, youth organisations and non-governmental organisations from the Jomoro District at Half Assini, in the Western Region.
The theme for the workshop was "We know Politics".
The aim of the workshop was to encourage more women to get involved in politics and decision making by creating a conducive environmental for them through fora and durbars.
Ms Sam said three projects areas have been identified out of all others from all the ten regions throughout the country.
She said in the Western Region, four districts namely Jomoro, Shama, Evuale-Gwira, and Tarkwa Nsuaem have been selected for the programme.
According to Ms Sam, WILDAF was negotiating for increases in women appointees in the district assemblies and ministerial appointments.
Mrs Gifty Erzoa-Bebodu, President of the Jomoro Local Legal Volunteer of WILDAF, appealed to women to participate in the district assembly
elections and also come out with their view in politics.
According to her, no woman was elected during the last district Assembly elections, adding that the two women at the Assembly were government appointee.
