The Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur has advised the electorate to elect competent people, who could articulate their needs to Parliament.
Mr Quianoo-Arthur said as a law-making House, Parliament needed people, who could understand the law making process to enable them to contribute effectively to the process.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Saltpond the DCE noted with concern, how some people were sponsoring some inexperienced independent candidates to split the vote of some good materials whose contributions in the august House could produce legislation that could stand the test of time.
He said in the future the law should be amended to specify people, who were qualified for election to Parliament to prevent the House from being filled by persons, who would be unable to contribute effectively to its deliberations.
The emphasis should be on competence and qualification, he said, adding that the future Parliamentarian should be well prepared physically and mentally.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur urged the electorate to weigh the candidates carefully before voting for them.
He said voting for a wrong candidate meant the denial of oneself development projects since the MP would not be able to lobby for the projects, he said, adding that the welfare of the constituents should override party affiliation.
