Former Government Spokesperson on Security and Governance, Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has described the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng as “emotional” and unfit to be trusted in handling the ongoing GRA–SML corruption case.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, November 24, Dr Boakye-Danquah questioned the integrity and investigative approach of the OSP, arguing that its public posture undermines confidence in state institutions.
“I do not think that we can trust the Office of the Special Prosecutor. I don’t think that we can trust the OSP himself. Governance is trust, transparency and accountability, and very clearly we have seen that he is on a wild goose chase. We cannot trust him,” he asserted.
He cautioned that the OSP’s communication style and public profiling of accused persons risk destroying reputations before guilt is established, urging the office to desist from such acts.
“Why do we waste our time when you can strengthen your own institution and work in silence? Working in silence is key. When I see those mark spotlights, I get scared because these are people who have built many years of reputation. Everyone can become a victim of circumstances, and until your name is cleared, you are destroyed,” he said.
Dr Boakye-Danquah further described the Special Prosecutor as “extremely emotional,” insisting that a state official must detach themselves from processes that determine the outcome of sensitive cases.
“Process is important and will determine the end product of a case. I am not sure we can trust the OSP,” he added.
His comments come as the OSP proceeds with its prosecution of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and seven others in the SML–GRA scandal. The office has filed 78 charges relating to alleged procurement breaches and questionable revenue assurance agreements signed between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML).
