Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department and parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale Central, has called for unity among party members following his victory in the primaries.
Prof. Seidu secured 840 votes in the contest, which was organised to elect a successor after the tragic death of the late Member of Parliament, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash with seven others.
Speaking after the Electoral Commission declared the results on September 6, Prof. Seidu urged his fellow aspirants and supporters to work together for the party’s success.
“I think the way we have started, it is important that we continue with this tone of reconciliation and we work together as a party to be able to win the seat for the NDC,” he urged,
The primary, organised at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, attracted 12 aspirants, including three women, all vying for the opportunity to represent the NDC in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Prof. Seidu’s decisive win was warmly acknowledged by his competitors, who congratulated him after Electoral Commission officials declared the results, with over 800 ballots cast in his favour.
