The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr. John Kwakye, has outlined potential funding strategies for the various initiatives announced by President John Dramani Mahama in his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In a post on X, Dr. Kwakye emphasized the need for enhanced revenue mobilization and prudent financial management to support the government’s plans.
Dr. Kwakye also highlighted the importance of leveraging Ghana’s natural resources as a critical source of revenue to support economic development.
Dr Kwakye posted on X, “If asked how President Mahama’s numerous SONA initiatives will be funded, l will suggest: enhanced revenue mobilisation, cutting wasteful expenditure, checking pillage of state funds, and tapping more natural resource receipts.”
President Mahama, in his first SONA of his second term on Thursday, February 27, 2025, acknowledged the challenges facing key sectors such as energy and cocoa, among others.
His outlined ambitious plans to stabilize the economy, strengthen industries, and introduce social intervention programmes.
