Parliament has approved Dr Edward Omane Boamah as the country’s new Defence Minister, with his swearing-in by President Mahama now awaiting confirmation. 

The approval came on Thursday, January 30, after a heated debate on the ninth report of the Appointments Committee.

Dr Omane Boamah, who was vetted by the committee on Tuesday, January 28, becomes the eighth nominee to be approved in the past week alone. 

His confirmation follows a series of approvals by the House, which also saw the green light given to several other ministers-designate, including Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Tia Ibrahim for the North East Region, and Dr Frank Amoakohene for the Ashanti Region.

In addition, Akamugri Atanga Donatus, the Upper East Regional Minister designate, was also approved, pending swearing-in.

These approvals come after a series of vetting sessions held earlier in the week, including on January 27, with the seventh report of the Appointments Committee being debated on January 29.
