A Number of victorious National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates in the just-ended general election have attended thanksgiving services to thank God for their victory.
In the Eastern Region, the regional executives organised a victory walk to herald the victory of the party at the polls.
In Accra, the President-elect, John Mahama and his family were at the Assemblies of God Church, Ringway Estates, for his thanksgiving service.
He used the occasion to advocate unity and collective action, urging Ghanaians to rally together to address the nation’s pressing challenges.
He reiterated his pledge to establish a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, which will be observed annually across the country.
Mr Mahama emphasized the importance of coming together as a nation to offer gratitude and seek divine guidance for the nation's future.
He reaffirmed his commitment to humility in leadership, stressing that he remained unmoved by the allure of power or the transient privileges of high office.
In Sunyani, the Bono Regional branch of the NDC attended a thanksgiving Mass at the Sacred Heart Parish, reports the Ghana News Agency.
The regional executives and the members and supporters, as well as some Members of Parliament-elect for the party, took advantage of the service to express their appreciation to God for the election victory.
Delivering the sermon on the theme “The joy I have ever wanted”, the priest at the parish, Rev. Fr. Stephen Oscar Amo, urged Ghanaians and politicians to allow the sovereign plans of God for the nation to work through them.
The Bono Regional Chairperson of the NDC, Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, said the overwhelming victory of the NDC was an indication that Ghanaians desired a positive change in government.
The Ellembelle branch of the NDC also held a victory thanksgiving service at the Sacred Action Church in Aiyinasi,
The Head Pastor of the church, Rev. Francis Andoh, advised political leaders to thank God after every victory in elections.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, appealed to party supporters to be patient and refrain from divisions and internal wranglings after victory.
Haruna Yussif Wunpini reports from Koforidua that scores of NDC supporters from the New Juaben South and New Juaben North constituencies joined at the party’s 2024 victory walk.
The walk was to thank the people living in New Juaben South and New Juaben North constituencies for coming out in numbers to vote massively for John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
Addressing the supporters, a former Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, asked them to desist from lawless activities and rather respect the rule of law.
"Avoid behaviours which will threaten the nation’s peace and stability, protect state properties and government assets,” Mr Boateng stated, urging supporters to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
