President-elect John Dramani Mahama says he is ready to take bold and decisive action to restore Ghana’s economic stability and growth.
“Rebuilding the economy won’t be easy,” Mahama said during his victory speech at his Cantonments residence on Monday, December 9, 2024.
“The outgoing administration has left us in a difficult position, but we are ready to make the tough decisions needed to reset our nation’s fortunes. Together, we will transform Ghana into a symbol of prosperity and opportunity," he said.
Mahama shared his plans for economic renewal, focusing on the ambitious 24-Hour Economy Initiative.
According to him, the initiative aimed to create sustainable, well-paying jobs while stimulating growth across the country.
He explained that the programme would leverage Ghana’s human capital and natural resources to encourage entrepreneurship, increase productivity, and attract investment.
“We must prioritise creating jobs with decent wages, and the 24-Hour Economy Initiative will be central to this mission,” Mahama stated.
“This plan will unlock the potential of our workforce, drive innovation, and improve the quality of life for every Ghanaian,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of addressing essential needs, such as affordable housing, quality health care, food security, and access to clean water.
“Every Ghanaian deserves to live a life of dignity and opportunity,” he said.
“From market traders to teachers, drivers to seamstresses, everyone has a role in building the Ghana we all want,” he emphasised.
Acknowledging these expectations, he promised to assemble a capable team committed to delivering results.
“This is a moment of great responsibility .. we cannot afford to fail. Together, we will rebuild trust in our economy and governance. We will create a Ghana that works for everyone, not just a privileged few," he added.
