Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama, wife of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, at the Manhyia Palace.  

The visit, according to Mrs. Mahama, was to formally inform the royal family of her intention to campaign in the Ashanti Region and seek their blessings for her husband, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the 2024 presidential elections. 

“As we all know, my husband, your son, John Mahama, is contesting for the presidency in December,” she remarked. Mrs. Mahama also expressed her deep connection to Manhyia, stating, “I always feel at home every time I visit Manhyia, as the Asantehemaa has been like a mother to me.”  

She underscored the significance of starting her campaign journey in the Ashanti Region with the royal family’s blessings, emphasizing its cultural and spiritual importance.  

Royal support and prayers  

Nana Asantehemaa warmly welcomed Mrs. Mahama, expressing her joy at the visit and offering prayers for God’s guidance in the upcoming elections. 

She acknowledged the competitive nature of Ghana’s political process and expressed hope that the nation would elect a leader who will steer the country towards prosperity.  

Mrs. Mahama later held a closed-door meeting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to seek his blessings and permission as she embarks on her outreach activities across Asanteman.

Accompanying the former First Lady was a high-profile delegation, including the NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman, Nana Kwasi Andrew; former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu; Deputy Director of Communications, Obuobia Darko-Opoku; former Deputy Defence Minister, Kenneth Adjei; members of the regional women’s wing; and parliamentary candidates from the region.
