The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-exhibit the updated Provisional Voters’ Register (PVR).
The party has, however, recommended that the re-exhibition exercise should be conducted online and offline at the exhibition centres.
This follows the Special Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held last Tuesday to deliberate on the 2024 PVR.
The party made its position known in a statement issued and signed by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, after the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) meeting late last Tuesday.
“The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC has deliberated and decided to accept the EC’s promise to release to political parties, the corrected/updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register for scrutiny within one week,” it said.
The NDC in the statement demanded a multi-stakeholder examination of the EC’s IT system to address its vulnerabilities.
"The vulnerabilities in the EC's IT system can be exploited by criminals to compromise the integrity of the December 7, 2024 elections if not addressed," it emphasised.
The statement said the EC had acknowledged several issues, including the illegal transfer of voters due to lack of liveliness test technology, erroneous additions to the transfer list, corrupted files, deleted voters and vulnerabilities in its IT system.
