The second Lady, Samira Bawumia has called on the people of the Oti Region to appreciate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the creation of the region by voting massively for the party in the 2024 general election.
“The NPP had since the creation of the region, embarked on many projects to facilitate the needed development of the region,” she said, adding “baby of the NPP, it is important for the people to massively vote for the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next President to continue with the development of the region.”
Mrs Samira Bawumia made the call here yesterday at the beginning of her two-day tour of the Oti Region.
Addressing the Oti Region Association of Queen Mothers (ORAQM) at Jasikan in the Jasikan Municipality to solicit votes for Dr Bawumia and the NPP she said she decided to start her national campaign tour from the Oti Region, and the Association of Queen Mothers in the region was the first people she addressed because women played crucial roles in national development, therefore had decided to meet them on the need for them to influence decision on why their subjects needed to vote for Dr Bawumia.
She said the NPP had a track record of bringing development to the people anytime it was in government, and cited the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy brought by President Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo among others, saying Dr Bawumia was prepared to continue with the development process.
The President of the ORAQM and the Queen Mother of Nkonya-Ahenkro Traditional Area, Nana Otubea II lauded the humility of Mrs Bawumia and thanked her for the honour done the association, which she said would forever remained history in the activities of the queen mothers.
Nana Otubea wished Dr Bawumia and the campaign team of the Second Lady well and appealed to the NPP presidential candidate as a matter of importance to include queen mothers in the regional houses of chiefs in the country to be recognised and play their roles more effectively if Dr Bawumia wins the 2024 general election.
She however said since traditional authorities did not participate in active party politics, queen mothers could only play advisory roles to the electorates to enable them to make informed decisions that would enable them to vote for a presidential candidate that would bring the needed development to the people.
