The wife of the Vice-President, Samira Bawumia, has said the December 7 general election is about the future and progress of the country and needs someone with a positive track record to be voted president.
She said the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, had proven to be someone who could bring the needed development to the country, and urged the people to vote massively for him in the upcoming general elections.
Mrs Bawumia said this when she addressed the chiefs and people of Bia East Constituency, at Camp 15 Junction, as part of her campaign tour of the Western North Region.
The Vice-President’s wife stated: “The NPP elected my husband to lead the party because he has what it takes to bring accelerated development and continue the good policies of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
Mrs Bawumia lauded the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) which was recently launched by the President, saying it would help improve roads in the country, especially Bia East roads.
The DRIP is aimed at enhancing Ghana’s road network by decentralising road infrastructure development and addressing challenges facing metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) across the country.
It is designed to empower MMDAs with the resources and equipment necessary to rehabilitate and maintain roads within their various jurisdictions and effect meaningful changes.
As part of the initiative, 2,240 units of road equipment including motor graders, backhoes, rollers, wheel loaders, bulldozers, water tankers, concrete mixers, tipper trucks, low beds and other essential machinery were commissioned to be distributed to all MMDAs.
Mrs Bawumia said the introduction of the Free Senior High School and other flagship programmes by the government had benefited almost every household in the country, and asked the electorate to retain the NPP in power to ensure the growth and development of the country.
The wife of the Vice-President further entreated the people of Bia East to vote for Nicholas Kupog Yayin, the NPP parliamentary aspirant, to ensure more development in the area.
Mr Yayin, who is also the District Chief Executive for Bia East, called on the electorate to vote massively for Dr Bawumia as the next President while voting for him as Member of Parliament for the Bia East Constituency.
The Western North Regional Chairman of the NPP, Benjamin Armah, called on the rank and file of the party to unite to ensure victory in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
