The Chairman of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, has appealed to stakeholders to be patient and allow Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the party, to name his running mate at his own time.
During an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Mr Owusu-Agyemang emphasised that there was an ongoing consultations and assured the party that Dr Bawumia would ultimately make the best choice for Ghana.
He underscored Dr Bawumia’s substantial popularity, even without announcing a running mate and highlighted the overwhelming support the presidential candidate received during his recent tour, particularly in the Ashanti Region, as a testament to his strong standing and influence within the party and across the country.
Highlighting the disparity between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Owusu-Agyemang criticised the latter for allegedly prioritising the undermining of state institutions over offering a constructive agenda.
He emphasized the NPP’s superior track record, citing tangible achievements such as substantial infrastructure development, the successful maintenance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy.
According to him, those accomplishments provided the NPP with a robust and credible message to communicate to the electorate and urged party members to refine their communication strategies to effectively convey the government’s successes to ensure that grassroot supporters are well-informed about the improving economic conditions and other positive developments.
He stressed the importance of focusing on promoting the NPP’s achievements rather than prematurely pressuring the presidential candidate to announce a running mate.
That approach, he argued, was crucial for maintaining the party’s momentum and unity, allowing it to concentrate on its core message and objectives leading up to the elections.
Expressing confidence in the party’s continued support and united front, the Chairman of Council of Elders, affirmed his belief that the NPP would secure victory in the upcoming elections.
