The Vice President, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, offers a better future for Ghana, and should be given the opportunity to take the mantle of government, in the 2024 General Election, the Majority caucus in parliament, has rallied Ghanaians.
Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, said the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has delivered on its mandate and should be given another term at the 2024 polls.
Making the call at a press conference in Accra, on Friday, Mr Afenyo-Markin said between former President John Mahama and the Vice President, who is the NPP flagbearer, the latter has the motivation of a second term to give his best than the former president, who does not have any term if he wins the election.
“In Bawumia, we have someone who knows that he has everything at stake and should he be successful, he would have another opportunity and he will have the motivation to work hard.
“Comparing the leadership we have today, one has something more at stake than the other. Dr Bawumia offers a better future for this country than former President Mahama,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.
The NDC, the majority leader said could not be trusted with the destiny of the country, having failed when it had the opportunity.
“The NDC is not a party to be trusted; from its flagbearer to all its operatives. They are the old NDC we know. The appointer and the appointee has not changed,” Mr Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu, said.
To him, all the NDC does is to criticise and try to mislead Ghanaians with the view of getting power without providing credible and workable alternatives to demonstrate that they can better govern this country.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said in the face of economic hardship, the government has not despaired, but has introduced policies to cushion the citizenry.
The interventions, he said cuts across all sectors of the economy, including the free Senior High School policy, abolishment of some taxes upon assumption of office, free water and electricity during the COVID-19 pandemic, health facilities, industries, and roads.
“We have not abandoned the people of Ghana. In spite of all the difficulties we face as a country, we have ensured that the manifesto promises of the NPP have been implemented,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.
With the election fast-approaching, he said Ghanaians must be on the look-out for the NDC propaganda and not fall for same.
“It is election year, and clearly we can see the NDC propaganda machinery in motion and Ghanaians must beware,” Mr Afenyo-Markin cautioned.
He urged NPP communicators to stand up to the NDC propaganda, and provide Ghanaians with the records of the government.
“If an NDC communicator tells you this government has failed the people of Ghana, it is important you remind him or her of the records, because facts are sacred,” he said.
