He indicated that the functioning of the house could be compromised as ousted parliamentarians may prioritize their personal agenda over government business.
In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Draman expressed worry that the outcome of the polls may affect the proceedings of the Fourth Session of the Eighth Parliament.
“Even before we got to this point, day in and day out, we see the level of absenteeism. Speaker after speaker struggles to get a quorum to do the business of the house. So the first thing that I will say is the apathy that is going to set in. Even if people go for it, there will be different minds, especially those who are bitter, those who think perhaps the system has worked against them. Because let’s face it, we have seen lots of government appointees who have gone to unseat some of these members.”
“By and large, we are going to see the slowing down of parliamentary business where people partake; we are going to see a total lack of interest because now they will be thinking about their future, they will be thinking about the way forward, what they will do with themselves and then come back,” he stated.
