Indigenes of Ajumako Ochiso in the Central Region have raised more than 125,000 Ghana Cedis to support development projects in the town.
The initiative by the Ajumako Ochisoman Development Association forms part of activities to mark the Christmas festivities.
The seed money would be used to commence the construction of an ultra-modern one-story 10-Unit Class Room Block with ancillary facilities for the Ochiso Methodist Basic School which was formerly called the amalgamated Middle School.
The Association again plans to build a modern community durbar ground for social gatherings, provide street lights, and construct some town roads.
According to the people, the initiative is their way of giving back to the school and the town.
Christmas is not only for merrymaking but also an occasion where families and community members get together to take stock of their welfare and progress as well as the development of their Communities.
For the people of Ajumako Ochiso, it was a period of raising funds for the construction of a basic school to replace the old dilapidated Methodist School which had existed for about hundred years.
Almost all the people of Ajumako Ochiso, and many from adjoining Communities benefited from the classrooms.
The school is currently the BECE centre not only for Ajumako Ochiso but also for other nearby communities.
Unfortunately, following its current dilapidated nature, there have been threats to relocate the Centre from Ochiso.
According to the people of Ochiso and the Development Association, aside the school building, the Ochiso Development Association would also construct a befitting durbar ground, some key roads within the town and fix streets lights.
The Chairman Of Ochisoman Development Association, Charles Kojo Amoah Snr, explained that aside contributing to the town’s development, the efforts is also to meet the high demand for quality education globally.
The Member Of Parliament for Ajumako, Dr. Casiel Ato Forson, who was present made a cash donation of 5,000 Ghana Cedis and a pledge of 50 bags of cement. He described the initiative as laudable and need to be supported by all.
An Executive member of the Association, Alfred Kobina Otsiwa, noted with the enthusiasm shown by the members, the project would begin in the first quarter of next year.
The Omankrado Of Ajumako Ochiso, Nana Koso Dum, commended the residents for their positive action towards the growth and development of their community.
According to him, the development of the school is a concern and cited the critical role education plays in nation-building.
He urged the younger generation to stick to the values of their communities and be dedicated to their development.
The Assembly Members of the town Alex Ankomah and Maxwell Mensah, were also grateful for the initiative by the Ochisoman Development Association.
According to them, the quality of education in the town was dipping due to the poor infrastructure.
They however pledged to mobilize the people for communal Labour when the project begins.
