They have also been implored to elect women for critical executive positions aside the usual treasurer and women organiser roles because females are loyal, principled, hardworking and competent when serving in leadership roles.
That, according to the Chief Executive Officer, Center of Posterity Interest Organisation (COPIO), Mustapha Yeboah, the move would increase women representation in political positions in the country.
He stated this on Tuesday during a presentation of a survey conducted by the Centre, a nongovernmental organisation, focusing on women empowerment, on the impending NDC internal elections in some selected constituencies, in the Bono East Region.
Mr Yeboah explained that the survey, conducted in Techiman South, Nkoranza South and Techiman North constituencies, was aimed at providing recommendations on issues of conflict identified, to maintain peace and unity after the elections.
He stressed that the survey was carried on key areas namely the demographic characteristics of delegates, academic qualification, their perception about gender in leadership positions, among 216 respondents.
Mr Yeboah disclosed that the pre-election survey established that the electorates were mostly focused on issue-based campaigns in the upcoming constituency elections adding that “the delegates rated the contestants based on the welfare policies for members of the party, and plans to win the 2024 general election and the aspirants also having high levels of hopes from delegates based on general performance and issues of membership and well-being”.
He noted that the tenet of every democratic institution was the election of its leaders at all levels through universal adult suffrage, in a transparent and peaceful manner and assured of the Centre’s commitment, dedication and determination to change the world through awareness, advocacy, support and assistance to women, girls, organisations towards improvement of gender against poverty, oppression, abuse and lack of opportunities.
Mr Yeboah entreated delegates, aspirants, members, supporters, members of the Election Committee and officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), to strictly observe the guidelines of the NDC, in order to ensure an incident – free elections.
