Police say they impounded 160 car tyres that were allegedly to be used to obstruct roads. Sticks and stones were also found.
Hundreds of people reportedly took part in last Thursday's demonstrations, which were widely publicised on social media platforms.
Police said that normal business operations were affected - including the closure of schools, hospitals and banks.
Many Mozambicans have been complaining about the rising cost of basic commodities. They accuse the government of not doing enough to alleviate their suffering.
