The Member of Parliament for Yendi Constituency in the Northern Region, Ahaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, through his Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Partnership for Poverty Reduction (PPR), has presented 1, 200 women in the Eastern Corridor enclave with farm inputs.

The MP over the past years has been supporting the women with startup kits with the latest costing GH¢346, 000
The beneficiary areas were, Kpadai, Bimbilla, Tatale, Saboba, Karaga and Yendi.
At a ceremony on Tuesday to hand over the farm inputs including fertilizer, pesticides, weedicide, Wellington boots, cutlasses, knapsacks sprayers to the farmers in Yendi, the MP said women made up an average of 43 percent of the agricultural labour in developing countries such as Ghana.
He said 80 per cent of the world agriculture food was produced by small scale farmers and women were not exempted.
The MP said assisting women to venture into agriculture was a way to mitigate the gender inequality in the Eastern Corridor enclaves.
Alhaji Farouk stated that bridging the gender inequality gap in the agriculture sector by supporting women farmers with farm inputs would go a long way to boast agricultural outputs in the Eastern Corridor enclaves.
The MP said he was committed to supporting the women through offering them sustainable trades for the benefit of their children, families and their respective communities.
He told them that they were not enemies to one another in the area, explaining that poverty was their enemy hence the need for them to support eradicate it in the area.
“The women are our mothers that is why I have decide this time round to support them with farm inputs,” he emphasised.
He said over the years he had been supporting the men and decided this year to support the women because they were also into farming.
The Yendi Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr Phanuell Yawson Dzigb- Sosu, applauded the MP for the kind gesture and said that the inputs had come at the right time.
He said the inputs would go a long way to help boost their farm activities in the various communities.
Madam Ayisha Sandoo, a beneficiary, also thanked the MP for the support and urged him to continue with the support every farming season.
