Ernest Norgbey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has decried that not a single kilometre of road has been constructed by the government for the past six years in his constituency.
He has initiated rehabilitation works on some deplorable roads in the community, which had made life unbearable for his constituents since all efforts to get the Ministry of Roads and Highways to fix the deteriorating roads in his constituency hit a snug.
Mr Norgbey said the constituency deserved better from the government because of the various levies residents pay which included tolls, market tolls, taxes, property rates and the Assembly takes money from communities to develop them.
“The government should at least support and assist my interventions in the constituency and if the government or the assembly is minded, they should come and put some bitumen on it, and it will last longer,” he lamented.
Mr Norgbey accused the government of denying his constituency development because it was a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stronghold and alleged that any time the New Patriotic Party(NPP) came to power, no developmental projects came to Ashaiman.
He complained that some school projects had also been abandoned in his constituency even though they paid tolls, rates, and taxes and contributed meaningfully to nation building and did not shirk their civic responsibility but had been neglected adding that “the perceived neglect of the government is evident to all my constituents.
“Everybody is aware of the situation, otherwise, I see no reason why contracts will be awarded, but contractors will be moved from Ashaiman to Tema to go and fix Tema roads, no road in my constituency has received facelift within the last six years and if the government does not respond favourably to the concerns of his constituents, he will organise a protest,” Mr Norgbey fumed.
He disclosed that he had initiated rehabilitation works on some dilapidated roads in the constituency and appealed to the assembly to offer its support and assistance by contributing bitumen to his efforts.
