Mr Gregory Baba Gbandi, a government appointee and the headmaster of Karachi Nchumuru Senior High School has been elected as the new Presiding Member of the Nkwanta North District Assembly.
He polled 17 votes to beat Mr Isaac Kiladini, who obtained only six votes, in the election conducted and supervised by the Nkwanta North District Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Emmanuel Oduro.
A total of 23 assembly members including the DCE were present for the process.
In his victory address, Mr Gbandi thanked the Assembly members for the confidence reposed on him and pledged his readiness to work and collaborate with all members for the growth of the district.
He appealed to the Assembly members to create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the Assembly's work.
He asked them to focus on the challenges confronting their electoral areas and pledged that the front desk of his administration will be a non-partisan office to see to all matters.
The District Chief Executive, Mr William Kidignang Nawungma said the Assembly is now complete for its operations.
He thanked the Assembly members for making the election an easy process with their one touch decision.
The DCE noted that the experience of the PM would drive the objectives of the assembly faster.
Meanwhile, Mr Kiladini, who lost to Mr Gbandi pledged his commitment to support the member-elect to drive the vision of the Assembly forward.
Also, some assembly members expected the PM-elect to move the Assembly to the next level.
