Algeria will on Wednesday begin producing Chinese-developed Sinovac vaccines for its own use and export to other African countries.
The production will be done in partnership with China and state pharmaceutical products company Saidal.
The country plans to produce one million doses in October, two million in November and three million in December.
The goal is to produce five million doses per month starting from January 2022.
The government plans to vaccinate 70% of the country's 45 million people.
Algeria also plans to start producing Russia's Sputnik V vaccine by the end of this year.
