The immediate past Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Ibrahim, has touted that he is the best person to secure a resounding victory for the NPP if given the nod as regional chairman.
Eyeing the chairmanship position in the Upper East Region, he said he would institute knowledge, skills and strategies that would advance and transform the party to win more seats for the party in the 2024 elections.
He made the declaration in an interview with the Ghanaian Times yesterday over his intention to contest the position of regional chairman.
Mr Ibrahim alleged that the incumbent regional chairman, Anthony Namoo, failed to garner more votes for President Nana Akufo-Addo due to his incompetence leading the party to lose more seats, adding that “during my tenure as chairmanin 2015, I migrated the votes of the party that was pegged at 23 per cent in 2012 to 35 per cent in 2016 which is unprecedented in the political history of the region.
“My performance as a regional chairman in the 2016 elections still remains outstanding if you juxtapose it to the performance of the party in the region in the 2020 elections, for instance, the vote margin of the party has been migrated from 35 per cent to 24 per cent in the just ended elections.
“I am optimistic because of experience and unique qualities I possess, believe I will help, support and assist the NPP amass more votes for the predecessor of President Akufo-Addo in the region in Election 2024 because I’ve worked closely with leadership of the party with the likes of the late Obetsebi Lamptey, Professor Mike Oquaye, late Hawa Yakubu among others.
“It was through their hard work I was able to successfully lead the NPP as the regional chairmanin 2015 which led the party to victory in 2016 which indicates I’ve passed through the rank and file of party leadership at the constituency level beginning as a ward secretary for Hausa Zongo Electoral Area in Bawku from1992 to 1996,” Mr Ibrahim affirmed.
