Tanzanians living near the Indian Ocean have been advised to continue with their daily activities as no tsunami risk is expected.
The country's meteorological authority has said no changes are expected in the ocean currents following a 6.0 magnitude offshore earthquake on Wednesday night.
The earthquake hit near the commercial city of Dar es Salaam.
Local media reported that people feared a tsunami would hit the coast.
The Tanzanian meteorological authority also said no weather changes are expected after the earthquake.
