The UK now has the highest number of recorded deaths from coronavirus in Europe.

The returnees were screened on arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital, Nairobi, on Monday night before being taken to quarantine centres where they will stay for two weeks, the newspaper reports.

One of the passengers is quoted as saying that each passenger occupied three seats and they wore face masks throughout the journey. They each paid 54,000 Kenyan shillings ($509; £411) for the Kenya Airways flight.

The country has banned international flights and closed its border crossings as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Kenya's coronavirus restrictions:

• Borders shut and flights restricted
• Night-time curfew between 19:00 and 05:00 local time
• No travel to or from the capital and parts of the city's neighbouring counties. Such measures also apply to some coastal counties
• Schools, pubs, entertainment venues, churches and mosques shut
• Everyone required to wear face masks in public and face arrest for not doing so
• Employers encouraged to allow staff to work from home
• All places of work required to have a hand-washing area with soap and water or approved hand sanitiser
• Cashless transactions encouraged
