Nana Ngyatoku IV, Chief of Damtse in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA), has called on Assembly Members to collaborate with their chiefs and communities to enhance development.
According to him, being an assembly member is a call to serve and urged them to focus on serving the interest of their respective electoral areas which they represent
Nana Ngyatoku IV made that called at the sidelines of the recent inaugural ceremony of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly to officially swear in newly elected members and a Presiding Member (PM)
He mentioned unity as the tool they should work with to develop their communities no matter which political party the belonged.
Mr Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, Deputy Trade and Industry Minister who represented the President pleaded with traditional leaders to make conscious efforts to maintain lands for industrial use.
According to him, if the municipality has not gotten any factory yet as part of the One District, One Factory initiative by the government, then it might be because there has not been any promoter.
He emphasized that land availability played a major role and therefore called on the chiefs to consider the development of business hubs in the municipality while making lands available.
Mr Ahenkorah also charged the Ahanta West Member of Parliament, Municipal Chief Executive and the Constituency Executives to collectively work together to develop their area.
He noted that the MP was better placed to lobby for projects, thus, one mistake the MCE should not make is to bypass the MP and independently fight for a project.
Mrs Henrietta Mary Eyison, MCE for AWMA maintained that development was a shared responsibility for central government, local government, non-governmental organizations and the people who are the ultimate beneficiaries of development.
She therefore promised her avowed intent to welcome any Assembly Member to approach her and make his/her suggestions and contributions towards building the success of the Assembly.
