Mr Joseph Atura Amiyuure, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), over the weekend hosted dinner for the the Mayor of Diapaga and some officials from that city.
The event was to foster peace and unity and rekindle the sister-city relationship between the municipality and the people of Diapaga, a city in Burkina-Faso.
Mr Joseph Atura Amiyuure, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who hosted Mr Augustin Tankon, the Mayor of Diapaga and some officials from that city to a dinner in Bolgatanga, recalled that the relationship between the two cities has been cordial over the years.
He said officials from the two cities has over the years paid regular visits to each other's city.
Mr Amiyuure gave the assurance that the Assembly would reawaken the Bolgatanga-Diapaga relationship and would form a committee to ensure that the initiative was continued.
On his part, Mr Tankon who spoke through an interpreter, said he would work to ensure that the cordial relationship between the two cities would continue to the benefit of their citizens.
He expressed worry about terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso and called on the people of the Bolgatanga Municipality to pray for their country.
"If we receive good reports from our security services about the situation, we would invite the MCE to Diapaga. Let's pray that we get a good report so that your delegation can visit our city as soon as possible."
"We will never allow you to visit Diapaga without a good report from our security agencies on the terrorist situation in our country," he said.
The Mayor said it was important for cities in Africa to develop initiatives that would create the opportunity for them to cordially relate among themselves to promote peace, unity and establish strong bonds between sister- African cities.
Mr Tankon said Diapaga covered a vast land size in Burkina Faso, and was flanked by Niger and Benin borders.
