Mr Mohammed Issah, Director of Corporate Affairs and ICT, Ghana Institution of Engineering, has called on school authorities to institute a project-based learning models that would enable students to think and solve problems.
He urged stakeholders to develop effective ways of helping students to be creative and move away from just preparing them for examinations.
Mr Issah made the call as a Guest Speaker on Saturday at the second annual speech, prize giving and graduation of Tot To Teen School in Accra.
The event was held under the theme "Championing Academic Excellence Through Modern Trends of Holistic and Qualitative Education".
Mr Issah, who was the former Chairman of the School's Parents Teacher's Association called on parents to invest in their wards education for better future.
He advised parents to desist from spending huge amount of money on social activities to the detriment of their wards education.
Mr Issah commended government for reviewing the country's educational curriculum to meet international standards and focus on practical learning abilities.
This, he said, was necessary because the world was learning from Finland, having the best of education and focusing on open environment and new educational concepts.
He was of the view that the Science, Technology , Engineering and Mathematics would propel the country to harness and develop its human capital development.
Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Arkyin-Quansah, the Headmaster of the School, said the school was among the first group of schools established in Adenta and now the most popular schools in the country.
He said the school was built on a solid foundation of good habits, moral values, reflective ability, self-discipline and basic learning skills.
"Since its establishment, the school had made continous efforts to realize its mission and vision of nurturing discerning and creative students", he said.
He said appropriate measures have been put in place to develop an innovative and balanced curriculum and a professional learning community among teachers.
The Headmaster urged parents to be concerned about the activities of their students because isolated and unhappy children cannot learn effectively to become responsible leaders.
"Do not underestimate the value of new experiences in helping your child increase their knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension", he said.
Mr Kofi Opoku-Mensah, the outgoing School Prefect commended management of the school for introducing innovative programmes like talent shows, spelling bee, reading and creative arts activities, which had developed them holistically into the emerging market.
He urged management to work on space for sports and other outdoor games to build their physical mind and strength.
The school organized educational activities with the display of cultural performance, choreography, poetry recitals to the admiration of the audience.
Certificates were presented to deserving pupils and students.
